Personal, Social & Emotional Development
Children’s personal, social and emotional development (PSED) is crucial for children to lead healthy and happy lives and is fundamental to their cognitive development. Underpinning their personal development are the important attachments that shape their social world.

At Bright Sparks we focus on ensuring children have a positive view of themselves and the world around them, by providing warm and responsive care, supporting them in building self conficence and self awareness and appreciating each child's uniqueness.
Communication & Lanaguage
The development of children’s spoken language, understanding and ability to listen attentively underpins all seven areas of learning and development. Children’s back-and-forth interactions from an early age form the foundations for language and cognitive development.
At Bright Sparks nursery we ensure we deliver quality conversations, interactions throughout the day by creating a language-rich environment. We implement key strategies to support Speech, language and communication.

Physical Development
Physical activity is vital in children’s all-round development, enabling them to pursue happy, healthy and active lives.

At Bright Sparks we focus on both gross and fine motor skills, creating games and providing opportunities for play both indoors and outdoors, we support children to develop their core strength, stability, balance, spatial awareness, co-ordination and agility.

As part of health and self-care, we support children in becoming independent, understand their bodies and how to look after them as well as develop key personal skills.
Literacy
It is crucial for children to develop a life-long love of reading and writing.

At Bright Sparks we ensure that we offer opportunities for children to read books, independently, within groups and one to one with their teachers. We deliver fun ways in which to engage reading such as the use of phonics, active stories, sensory stories, props, story sacks and activity based books.

At Bright Sparks we believe writing is so much more than sitting at a table with a pencil. We deliver writing opportunities, through a range of marking making tools and sensory experiences, alongside more structured opportunities to focus on pencil control.
Mathematics
Developing a strong grounding in number, space, shape and measure is essential so that all children develop the necessary building blocks to excel mathematically.

At Bright Sparks mathematics is interwoven into our curriculum and we delivery learning opportunities based on children's age and stage of development. We build a sequence of learning that suits each child and specific group.

Our mathematics opportunities are not limited to the indoors, but rather extend beyond classroom based concepts, allowing children to apply their mathematical knowledge to the world around them.
Expressive Arts & Design
The development of children’s artistic and cultural awareness supports their imagination and creativity. It is important that children have regular opportunities to engage with the arts, enabling them to explore and play with a wide range of media and materials.

At Bright Sparks we offer a variety of experiences that encourage self expression, through different media and means. Role play, dance, music, arts and crafts are a core part of our curriculum delivery.
Understanding of the world
Understanding the world involves guiding children to make sense of their physical world and their community.

At Bright Sparks we offer opportunities, experiences and trips that support children's understanding of the world, people & communities, technology and science based concepts.
Learning is delivered through practical experiences, books, activities, trips, visits and education programmes,
Trips & Visits
We all love an adventure and outing!

At Bright Sparks we love to offer opportunities to learn outside the classroom. We understand children learn best when exposed to and engrossed in meaningful learning environments, which allows them to develop a stronger understanding of the world around them.
Outdoors & Nature
At Bright Sparks we have 2 large gardens adapted per age group.

We value and encourage the continuation of learning to the outdoors, exposing children to the natural world and opportunities for physical play.

We are also in the process of expanding our garden to accommodate forest school!

SEND Support
At Bright Sparks Day Nursery we are committed to the inclusion of all children. All children have the right to be cared for and educated to achieve the best possible outcomes, to share opportunities and experiences and develop and learn alongside their peers.
We provide a positive and welcoming environment where children are supported according to their individual needs.

We recognise that some children may have additional needs that may require help, intervention and support. These needs may be short-lived for a particular time in the child’s life or may require longer-term or lifelong support.
At all times we will work alongside each child’s parents and any relevant professionals to share information, identify needs, and help the child and their family access the support they need.

Personalised Curriculum
Our Bright Sparks Day Nursery curriculum and teaching is a balance between adult led and child led learning opportunties and experinces.

Our annual curriculum highlights key topics, themes and experiences we have tailored to expose children to a wide variety of learning and experiences. They work alongside the characteristics of effective learning, which places emphasis on adults delivering teaching based on the child's current learning style.

Our child led teaching is based on children's individual next steps delivered within children's current interests.

In both aspects we take into account children's prior knowledge, skills and lived experiences. This is also known as cultural capital.

A copy of our curriculum is provide to families upon admission.
Workshops

We truly value the importance of those who trust us with the care of their child, thus we believe in involving families as much as possible in their child's journey. We host workshops based on current learning, events and general opportunities for engagement.

We also host termly parent meetings, which act as an opportunity to engage with your child's key person and discuss your child's learning and development.
Children's Centre
We are extremely fortunate to be based within Soho Children's centre (Ladywood Family Hub). This allows us to work in close partnership with Barnardo's children centre services, Ladywood West health visiting team and other amazing agencies who support children and families.
